Frequently Asked Questions

Real questions we get about domain registration, hosting, and how this site works.

Is GoDadis affiliated with GoDaddy?
No. GoDadis is an independent review site and has no affiliation, partnership, or endorsement relationship with GoDaddy or any other registrar we review. The similarity in name is coincidental to our focus on domain services — we compare GoDaddy alongside every other major registrar with the same criteria.
What's the difference between a domain registrar and a web host?
A registrar is who you buy your domain name from and who manages its DNS records and renewal. A web host is where your actual website files live and get served from. You can (and often should) use a different company for each — see our hosting guide for how to think about that split.
How do you decide which registrars and hosts to compare?
We focus on providers large enough to have a public track record: published pricing, a documented transfer policy, and enough independent user reports to spot patterns. See our registrar comparison for the current list.
Do you get paid to recommend a registrar or host?
Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you sign up through them, at no extra cost to you. This does not change our comparisons — every price and feature claim is checked against the provider's own current terms, not what they pay us.
What is WHOIS privacy and do I need it?
WHOIS privacy hides your personal contact details (name, address, phone, email) from the public WHOIS database that anyone can query for a domain. Most registrars now include it free; a few still charge extra. See our domain privacy guide for specifics.
How do I transfer a domain to a new registrar?
In short: unlock the domain at your current registrar, get the EPP/auth code, wait out any 60-day post-registration lock if it applies, then start the transfer at the new registrar. Full step-by-step details are in our domain transfer guide.
Why did my renewal price go up so much from the first year?
Almost every registrar prices the first year as a loss-leading discount and renews at a higher standard rate — this is industry-wide, not specific to one company. Always check the renewal price, not just the sign-up price, before buying. Our registrar comparison lists both.
